Days after the Tamil Nadu police department had issued notification on locating and detaining the people who allegedly share and circulate the child pornographic videos online, the Chennai police have now brought at least three gangs, who had created, stored and shared the videos, under its scanner.
The police department has been eyeing on the gangs after their IP addresses have been exposed for reportedly creating and sharing the videos of child sexual abuse online. It has been reported that a few days ago, a team of ethical hacking volunteers of the cyber cell of the police, by allying with a private agency, had exposed and located about 1,500 persons across the state who have downloaded such pornographic videos and content in November. While stating about the developments, the Additional Director General of Police (Crime wing) Ravi has said that the department has been sieving the details of the people who had either downloaded and shared the videos over the Social media platforms including WhatsApp.
He further stated that the police officials have uncovered the three cases of child pornography and the details of the cases have been forwarded to the respective officers to initiate action and cited that the details like name and the IP address of those who reportedly created, stored and circulated the videos with the sexual content have been transferred to all the police departments of their respective districts following which they would be called for interrogations.
Since such notification was published by the police department, the state has been spreading the rumors and whispers that the police department would unleash the investigations against everyone who had previously logged on and visited such pornographic sites and by responding to the rumors, Ravi claimed to have less possibility on investigating everyone but rather, the police has been scanning the people those who get involved in child pornography. The reports say Jayashree, the Superintendent of Police who heads the wing of Crime against Women and Children has been appointed as the nodal officer and she would be coordinating with the district police officials to investigate the people with the alleged connection of circulating the pornographic videos.
As per the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act, abusing the children, compelling them into the sexual acts, allegedly video recording and circulating it are offenses and severely punishable.
