The Rajya Sabha member from the state of Tamil Nadu and the leader of MDMK, Vaiko had knocked the doors of the Supreme court through filing Habeas corpus petition demanding the top judicial body to intervene towards freeing one of the Kashmiri leaders and former Chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah, who has been under house arrest since last month to bring him to Chennai for a conference.
In his petition, Vaiko had quoted that he had extended an invitation to Farooq Abdullah to take part in an event which has been scheduled on September 15th in Chennai but since the Kashmiri leader has been locked up under house arrest, he cited that he couldn't establish a connection with him regarding his invite to an event in Chennai.
He further stated that he has been organizing a conference of all party leaders across the nation in Chennai in the wake of celebrating the birthday of former Chief minister of Tamil Nadu C N Annadurai for many years and such conference for this year is all prepared to held on September 15th for which he had invited former Kashmir Chief minister Farooq Abdullah along with the other leaders, who had been part of previous conferences held in Chennai.
He cited that the Kashmiri leader was currently under undemocratic picture of house arrest since last month after the Central government had revoked the special status from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that with accordance to invite Farooq Abdullah, he had already written to the authorities of Central government on August 29th to seek their permission to allow Farooq Abdullah to travel Chennai but he told that he had failed to have a concrete response from them.
Through his petition, he accused the Central government on its illegal actions of holding the senior leader and former Chief minister of Kashmir under house arrest and indicated that refusing Farooq Abdullah to attend the peaceful and democratic conference is the violating action against the constitution of India. MDMK leader Vaiko had asked the apex court to issue directions to the Central government to produce the Kashmiri leader before its bench after which he must be permitted to travel to Chennai for attending democratic conference.
Farooq Abdullah was one among the Kashmir leaders along with son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti who have been detained by the Central government authorities and have been kept under house arrest with tight security watch since early hours of August 5, 2019 prior to which the Central government had unilaterally proposed to revoke and abrogate the special status from the state of Jammu and Kashmir along with bifurcating the state into two union territories.
The state of Kashmir and its residents have been brought under the hands of uncertainty since then where the state had witnessed the stationing of thousands of Central armed and paramilitary forces to enhance the security grid in the state and the state authorities had also imposed severe restrictions and suspended mobile networks and communications by fueling the unrest in the state.
The state residents has been going through hard times and heated grounds of their lives even after the state government authorities had relaxed the restrictions in last week of August while the leaders are still kept under captivity.
