The Central government, through its cabinet meeting, had today approved the state of Tamil Nadu to set up six new medical colleges in its territory and the approval has been passed to the state government through the Union Health ministry.
It has been reported that the new medical colleges will be built in Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Dindigul and Virudhunagar districts of the state where the reports say that each medical college will be constructed with estimate cost of around 325 crores in which the Central government will be contributing about 190 crores while the rest would be invested by the state government and the reports had stated that through these six medical colleges, the state of Tamil Nadu will be awarded with nearly 900 MBBS seats which would increase the medical admissions among the students of Tamil Nadu.
Few days back, the state Chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami, when he was conferred with honorary doctorate degree by Dr MGR Educational and research institute, had said that the Central government will consent the state's proposal to set up six medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.
