Is Tamil Nadu becoming unsafe for toddlers?

With back to back tragedies, the state of Tamil Nadu has been turning as an unfortunate state for toddlers where it is been just a week time since two-year-old Sujith lost his life after trapped under the bore well, the city of Chennai hosted another brutal incident that was directed by the negligence and communal apathy as a three-year-old boy died near Korukkpet on Sunday after his neck was allegedly cleavaged by a 'Manja' thread that was made up of glass and tied to the kites.

The Chennai city police said that they have arrested four people in connection to the crime and they have been under inquiry carried out by R K Nagar police. The reports say that the child, Abhinayu, was riding home along with his father from Tondiarpet during which the Manja thread glided down from the lamppost after which the thread filled with glass particles occupied his neck. His father stopped the two-wheeler after the child started crying with severe pain where his father saw the child's neck full of blood and injuries following which he took the child to Stanley government hospital where, unfortunately, the child was declared dead.

While commenting about the arrests, a senior police official stated that it was most unfortunate that the child died in front of his father and added that the police department has detained about four persons aged 15,18,19 and 20 respectively. On the other hand, the local residents of Korukkpet have asserted that there has been a huge amount of kites in the area for the past two months and further urged the police department to barricade this life taking kites and the people who are marketing this thread.

The Chennai city police banned to fly the kites with Manja thread in 2015 after the five-year-old boy was died due to Manja thread in Perambur. Manja thread has been common among the young people to fly kites and these threads are mainly used in kite competition to cut off the thread of the kite belongs to the opponent players.
