Perarivalan had addressed the media for the first time in three decades during which he thanked his mother for her fight.

The Supreme Court has on Wednesday invoked its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution and released Perarivalan, who was already on bail.

The apex court has directed the Union government and the states to refrain from registering any new FIR, continuing any investigation, or taking any coercive steps under the sedition law. 

The court has also noted that Perarivalan's conduct in jail was good, and that he is being discriminated against under Article 14 of the Constitution - the right to equality. 

The apex court has noted that the vaccine mandates imposed by various state governments and other authorities in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic are not appropriate.

By citing that the litigants have to travel from here to Delhi to seek justice from the apex court, he had urged the Chief Justice to set up a Supreme Court bench in Chennai. 

Duraimurugan said that the state government would hold a consultation with legal experts and plan the future move regarding this reservation.

The apex court has declared the reservation unconstitutional and violates Articles 14 to 16 of the Indian Constitution. 

While passing the order, the court has noted that there was no complaint about his conduct when he was released on parole three times.
