On the day of event, May 22-23, 2018, the police were reported that based on orders issued by three deputy tasildars, which ended with the killing of 12 people on May 22 and another one on May 23.

The plant will be in history for being a prime reason why thirteen people were killed by the police in 2018.

The Supreme Court has on Tuesday backed the re-opening of the plant to produce the oxygen amid the intensifying oxygen crisis in the state.

In a surprising move, Tamil Nadu Opposition DMK had supported the government to re-open the Sterlite plant for the production of oxygen.

Rajinikanth has now admitted that he has no evidence to prove his allegations that anti-social elements had instigated the violence during the anti-Sterlite protests.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had informed the nation's top judicial body that the Sterlite Copper plant can be allowed to function to meet the rising need for oxygen. 

Rajinikanth has been advised to be in complete rest and the doctors had advised him to avoid any situations that would make him more vulnerable to COVID-19.
