The Supreme Court has on Wednesday invoked its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution and released Perarivalan, who was already on bail.

Prateep Philip, a 1987-batch IPS officer, has retired in October 2021 as the Director-General of Police, Training.

In her petition, Nalini has highlighted that the Supreme Court has awarded bail to Perarivalan by citing that he had spent more than three decades in prison.

She has expressed her gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and for everyone who had extended their support to her struggle.

The apex judicial body has also highlighted that he is entitled to get released on bail, based on the fact that he had spent three decades in jail. 

While passing the order, the court has noted that there was no complaint about his conduct when he was released on parole three times.

She is one of the seven convicts serving the life sentence and she has now been given a month of ordinary parole to look after her ailing mother. 

He has been taking legal measures to seek a release from the prison and he also had petitioned the Tamil Nadu Governor to grant him amnesty. 

According to his counsel T Thirumurugan, Ravichandran has donated Rs 5000, which he earned inside the prison, to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. 

He added that the DMK had earlier spoken in favour of the release of the seven convicts and Chief Minister MK Stalin should issue an order regarding the same.
