Trudeau has become the first foreign leader to speak out about the farmers' protest and his solidarity has come at a high time when the farmers are intensifying the protests.
Speaking at a rally at Varanasi on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the new agricultural laws have been brought in for benefit of the farmers.
Amid the episodes of clashes, the police and the leaders of the farm unions had reached a deal and permitted the protesters to rally peacefully in Delhi.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and said, "The agriculture laws are a death sentence to our farmers. Their voice is crushed in Parliament and outside".
The peasants, who are often described as the backbone of the country, are now voicing against what they claim would affect their livelihoods and make them more vulnerable.
Amid the nationwide agitation from the farmers, the farm bills were passed at the Parliament and would go for the presidential consent following which it would get enacted as law.
Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that these bills will increase competition and promote private investment which will help in the development of farm infrastructure and generate employment.
The opposition parties had boycotted the assembly by accusing the ruling government of not sending the bill to the examination committee before tabling it on the assembly floor.
