On March 18, the Prime Minister was administered the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine, the only available COVID-19 vaccine in Pakistan.

On Friday, the state has reported 1,087 fresh cases - the first time the state is reporting a thousand cases after 81 days. 

It has to be noted that Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan had said that a fine will be imposed on people who fail to wear masks in public places.

For the past few days, Tamil Nadu has been reporting a sharp increase in fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the government to deploy the measures and fresh guidelines to stop the second wave.

Both the individuals had given wrong contact details and as they couldn't able to trace these individuals, the Greater Chennai Corporation had lodged a police complaint to trace these two individuals. 

The Chief Secretary had asked the district administrations to impose a fine on people if they defy the guidelines and fail to wear the masks at public places.

In the wake of the increasing number of cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a virtual meeting of Chief Ministers on March 17 and the meeting will begin at 11 am on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister will be taking part as the Chief Guest in the event that was organized by his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. 

On Thursday, for the first time since the launch of the vaccination drive, India had vaccinated over 1 million people in a single day.

While the COVID-19 vaccine will be given free of cost at government hospitals, people who wish to get vaccinated at private hospitals must pay for the vaccine and for the service.
