The summon was issued to the Gandhis days after the ED had questioned senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal as part of the probe.

Earlier, the court has observed that the incident was three decades old and that there was no enmity between the accused and the victim and that no weapon was used by the accused. 

The Congress party has apparently shown it has been on a different page and the party has criticized the judgement of releasing Perarivalan.
