India's winning streak at Canberra continues as Kohli's fleet has opened the T20 series against the Aussies in style after pushing the host to concede the defeat in the first T20 match that was hosted by Manuka Oval, Canberra on Friday. The splendid shows from the Indian young guns had dominated the match after the visitors recorded a victory by eleven runs and to take a lead in the three-match T20 series.
Aussies came to the field after winning the ODI series while the men in blue got ready for the T20 with the pressure to pay the host back. Aussie captain Aaron Finch had won the toss and chose to bowl following which KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan came to the crease. While India showed a flawed opening with Dhawan departing for 1 run when the team was at 11, Rahul delivered a steady stand and gave a decent run rate. While Kohli followed Dhawan for a quick dismissal after departing for nine runs, pressure has gone to the middle order in putting a decent final score on the board.
When Sanju Samson, Manish Pandey, and Hardik Pandya got dismissed for 23, 2, and 16 runs respectively, Ravindra Jadeja put the best cameo role and taking the team to a big score. Jadeja had scored 44 runs off 23 balls including five fours and one six. Finally, India had scored 161 runs for 20 overs by losing seven wickets. The visitors had given the target of 162 runs to the host. Though Aussies thought of chasing the score, they didn't know what's in the store of the Indian line-up.
The powerful batting line-up of the Aussies was collapsed by the young stars of the Indian team - T Natarajan and Chahal who dominated the pitch through their fast and spin. Though the Aussies had delivered a good opening stand of 56 runs, the bowlers attacked them and didn't let the rest of the batsmen score even a hundred after the fall of the first wicket. While openers D'Arcy Short and Aaron Finch had got dismissed for 34 and 35 runs respectively, the rest of the batsmen fell short of the target.
When Steve Smith got dismissed 12 runs, Maxwell has gone very quickly by scoring two runs. Moises Henriques was a lone warrior in chasing the target as the host was losing control of the match. Henriques got dismissed for 30 runs while Matthew Wade and Mitchell Starc got dismissed for 7 and 1 respectively following which the show came to an end. Aussies had ended up scoring 150 runs in 20 overs by losing seven wickets and they conceded the defeat to India by 11 runs.
India started the series with style and took the lead in the series. India's best show against the Aussies to defeat the host was made possible by India's latest capped played Natarajan and one of the significant bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal. Natarajan and Chahal had scored three wickets each while Deepak Chahar took one wicket. With the victory against the host, India has built a winning momentum to lubricant the team to steer towards the victory in the rest of the matches. With the splendid performances from Natarajan and Chahal, they had won the hearts as the Indian fans have been hailing the bowlers and commending their performances through social media.
Natarajan and Chahal were the stars of today's match and Chahal was named as the Player of the match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli said, "Jaddu (Jadeja) got a knock on the side of the head and was a bit dizzy and still is. There were no plans of having Yuzi (Chahal) in the game. Concussion replacements are a strange thing. Today, it worked for us". Hailing Chahal, Kohli said, "Yuzi showed character to squeeze the opponents. I thought they had a great start. They were cruising. The batters offered us a few wickets. That is T20 cricket for you".
Initially, Chahal was not picked in the playing XI, which changed the tide of the game in India's favor as he picked three important wickets and conferred with the player of the match. With the happy ending, India is preparing for the second match which will be played on December 6 at Sydney, where the host beat the visitors in the first two ODIs. If India wins the second T20, it will be winning the series.
