Suriya's next 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan' gets the release date: No, it's not when you expected!

Amid the Jai Bhim row, Suriya is progressing towards his next and is all set for a hopeful opening of 2022 through his upcoming movie 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan'. As Jai Bhim has poured more reputation to Suriya and to his career, Etharkkum Thunindhavan has naturally drawn more expectation but the announcement from the movie team on Friday didn't win the expectations from the fans.

The fans were expecting that Etharkkum Thunindhavan will hit the big screens on Pongal 2022. And yes, this time you can watch Suriya on big screens as the movie has slated for a theatrical release. The fans were predicting that the movie will clash with Ajith starred 'Valimai' during Pongal 2022. When it was announced on Thursday that the movie's big update will be unveiled on Friday, the fans tossed up with the speculations of the release date. 

They eventually won the toss as it was indeed an update about the release date, but not on the expected date. Sun Pictures, which bankrolls the movie, took to Twitter on Friday and released a motion poster and said that the movie will be releasing on February 4th, 2022, nearly three weeks after the Pongal festival. Though the fans rejoiced the announcement, they were perplexed over why the movie had stayed off from the Pongal race. 

According to reports, the decision to skip the race was taken based on two factors - one, the distribution rights for Etharkkum Thunindhavan have been acquired by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. On the other hand, the distribution house will also be distributing 'Valimai' in some areas and with the view of avoiding clash, it was decided to release the movie after Pongal. 

The second reason is Suriya has a significant fanbase in Telugu states. However, Tollywood would be witnessing the release of big Telugu movies including 'RRR' during Pongal and there has been trouble in getting theatres for Suriya's movie in these states due to which the release has been deferred. The shooting of Etharkkum Thunindhavan was over earlier this month and the first look poster had already been released, promising a thrilling entertainer.

While the movie is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his banner Sun Pictures, it is directed by Pandiraj. While Suriya plays the lead role, 'Doctor' fame Priyanka Mohan, Vinay Rai, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Saranya Ponvannan, Soori, MS Bhaskar, Jayaprakash, Devadarshini, and Illavarasu will play important roles. National Award-winning composer D Imman has composed the music and Ruben and Rathnavelu had done editing and cinematography respectively.
