In the wake of the shut down of the theaters due to the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions, movie producers are settling up to walk on the new feet to take their movies directly to the fans and audiences. While we have seen some of the Tamil movies already stepped on to the OTT platforms, Actor Suriya's next movie is going to become the first Tamil movie with a top star to get released directly on the OTT platforms.
On Saturday, Actor Suriya took to Twitter and said his next movie 'Soorarai Pottru' will be getting released on Amazon Prime on October 30, becoming one of the significant and much-awaited movies to go directly to the homes of audiences. By extending his Vinayagar Chathurthi wishes, Suriya stated that it's very important to swim against with hope and without getting submerged to the problems and challenges at the high time when the invisible virus had halted entire humanity.

Suriya highlighted that Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, will definitely be a splendid movie in his cinematic journey and said he is very eager to watch and cherish the movie in the theaters with his beloved fans. However, the time and situation hadn't permitted for that currently and stated that the important duty of the producer is to take the movie, which was created with the fierce efforts and creativity of artists, to the fans and movies at the right time.
In his statement, he further stated that his production company '2D Entertainment' has produced eight movies so far and ten more movies are getting produced and asserted that at these challenging times, he believes to act and decide as a producer, not as an actor. He revealed the production has decided to release 'Soorarai Pottru' on Amazon Prime Video.
Suriya has requested his colleagues, the general public, and fans to understand the decision taken based on his conscience. In his statement, the actor said that he will be allocating and distributing Rs 5 crore from the release expense of Soorarai Pottru to those who are fighting against the global pandemic in the frontline, for the benefits of those affected in the industry and the general public.
Suriya added that the details of the allocation will be shared soon. Soorarai Pottru will be getting released on Amazon Prime Video on October 30. Amazon said its subscribers can watch the movie in four languages- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The movie was directed by Sudha Kongara, who attained the fame by directing Madhavan- Ritika Singh starrer 'Irudhi Suttru'.
Earlier, Jyothika starrer 'Pon Magal Vandhal' and Keerthy Suresh starrer 'Penguin' were released on Amazon Prime and the release on the brand new platform had attained mixed reactions while the theater owners had opposed for such OTT releases.
