Surfers banned in the wake of Modi-Xi's meet in Tamil Nadu!

With the move of tightening the security grid in Tamil Nadu's coastal town of Mamallapuram which hosts high level informal meeting of Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Tamil Nadu state coastal security group had imposed a twenty days ban for surfers, swimmers and catamaran services in what they cited as the security mechanisms towards establishing tandem work with Chinese security forces.

Speaking with the conformity, the Additional Director General of Coastal security group had said that the near shore water activities have been banned for next twenty days in Mamallapuram with the view of avoiding security setback during the visit and cited that the area houses some illegal surfing schools that have been issued with notice to shutter down its operations.

While commenting on the sudden ban, the surfers and the local fishermen had accused for this arbitrary ban as they claim that the police officers and coastal guards had allegedly ousted them from the beach without furnishing any government orders or announcements and cited that this ban could affect their livelihood. One of the surfers in the Covelong beach, the home of hundreds of surfers which is located 20 minutes from Mamallapuram, had said that he was abruptly asked to vacate the beach.

One of the surfing trainers who runs Bay of Life surfing school in Covelong beach had said that the banning orders have also been imposed on ocean swimmers, catamaran services and paddle boarders which eventually will impact their livelihood and further added that this is the peak surfing season for which he had enrolled ten students for surfing classes everyday and indicated that, ahead of the ban, he had suspended the classes that had cost him lot of money due to which he won't be able to pay salaries for ten trainers in his school.

The reports say that after surfing had banned for over a fortnight, three surfing schools in Covelong had cancelled the classes. It has been reported that these schools have been employed many local fishermen who are trained in surfing and ocean swimming.

Mamallapuram has been preparing for a historical meet where the coastal town of Tamil Nadu will be hosting Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping from October 11th to 13th which will be the second informal meet between the leaders of highly populated countries where China had hosted Modi in first meet in Wuhan province last year.

The town has been under tight security watch for over weeks now where the state and district authorities have been droning the town to enhance the security grid and last week, the officials from Chinese government had visited the coastal town to overview the security mechanisms that are being on ground to host the Chinese President. The reports say that the roads have been renovated and the pavements have been painted and the town has been brought under tight security and surveillance.

The reports indicated that, in the sidelines of the summit, both leaders will be touring the coastal area, the stone temple which stands high with the tag of UNESCO World heritage site. It has been reported that hundreds of Indian and Chinese delegations will be accompanying the leaders where they will table the discussions on entire gamut of India - China relations.
