Several celebrities of Tamil Cinema have been rushing to the MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai to see SP Balasubrahmanayam as the legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been battling for survival amid being placed at the extremely critical state. 

SPB has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection on August 5 and he has been getting treated at the MGM Hospitals for the past 50 days and while he was towards the path of recovery, the hospital has on Thursday said there was a sudden setback in his health condition and his health had deteriorated in the last 24 hours. He has been extremely critical and under maximum life support. 

While millions of his fans, that he earned through his immense and unparalleled contribution, have been hoping his speedy recovery, the health update from the hospital had shocked his fans and fraternities who are extending their prayers and wishes. As he has been hard-battling for survival, many celebrities, and his closest friends in the movie industry have been visiting the hospital since the update from the hospital made headlines. 

On the evening hours of Thursday, actor turned politician Kamal Haasan had rushed to the hospital after learning that the singer's health has deteriorated. He directly went to the ICU and had seen one of his closest friends, who has been battling for life. While addressing the reporters after meeting the singer, Kamal Haasan said, "The life-saving machines are functioning. Can't say that he is doing well. He is critical". 

Prayers across and beyond the state have been pouring in for the singer and after learning his condition, reputed faces have been visiting the hospital since the morning hours of Friday. On Friday, SPB's family members, including his wife, had arrived at the hospital, which has seen the larger presence of people before its premises. 

According to reports, doctors who are treating the singer have briefed his family about his health condition and the treatment. Reputed directors Bharathiraja and Venkatprabhu had arrived at the hospital and visited the hospitalized singer while many celebrities have extended their prayers and called the masses to pray for the singer's recovery. Bharathiraja has been very close with the singer for the past five decades. The reports stated that the hospital has been deployed with hundreds of police officers for security purposes. 

On September 7, SPB's son Charan said that his father had recovered from the COVID-19 viral infection and in series of updates, Charan stated that the singer is towards the path of recovery. On September 22, Charan issued the update in which he stated that the singer was recovering well and was eager to leave the hospital. However, within two days, his health had again taken a wrong turn and attained a major setback. As the hospital said, the singer has currently been extremely critical and his health had deteriorated further, as the latest update had further disheartened his fans.
