Sonbhadra, second largest district in the state of Uttar Pradesh had got its place in the books of darkest sides of our nation after Ubha, a hamlet under its jurisdiction had witnessed the series of shootings and gun shots carried by the landlord against the tribal farmers.
The district which has been flashing across every corner for the past three days, have seen the deaths of 10 people, including three women and left 28 people with severe injuries when the stooges of the landlord opened the fire on them on July 17th 2019 which had sparkled tense among the local farmers.
Known for its rich mineral resources and sharing its border with four neighborhood states, Sonbhadra's situation on ground have seen the violence like never before and the police administration had imposed section 144 to prevent further clashes and tensions. The reports say that the injured are being treated in various government hospitals.
The basics and the motive behind this issue was a land ownership dispute on the land which was bought by the village head Yagya dutt and its said that on July 17th, Yagya dutt and his armed supporters stormed in to land to possess the ownership where the tribal farmers have been farming. The farmers and the locals have tried stopping the armed men from taking over the land further to which, police say, that the armed men opened fire on them which resulted in taking the lives of 10 people, including three women.
According to the reports, the family and the supporters of Yagya dutt have seen smoldering for possessing the ownership over the land by threatening the tribes who ended up complaining to revenue authorities and filing a petition in civil court.
Ahead of the brutal killings, the local had occupied the streets and staged protest against the local administration and against the government and their deadlock have continued till Thursday evening where the villagers demanded the burial of the deceased should be done in the spot where the shooting took place, which is the part of the disputed land.
Later, the opposition parties have voiced against the state government over the alleged shootings and demanded the police to make immediate arrest of all the suspects and as the tensions mounted, the Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed Director general of police to monitor the case to make sure the action is taken. The state government also suspended circle officer and the inspector.
On July 17th, the police department had arrested Girijesh and Vimlesh, two nephews of the main accused Yagya dutt, who later got detained by the police on July 20th along with 29 people and the police had filed FIR against 61 people.
Speaking in the legislative assembly on this issue, Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had promised justice to those who got killed and he said that an independent committee has been formed to probe the issue which will submit its report to him in ten days.
The main leaders of opposition have lined up in attacking the chief minister and his government over the killing of the tribal farmers and demanded high compensation to the deceased families and most of the leaders had labeled the killing as genocide and BJP's increasing insecurity in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Congress party general secretary for the state, Priyanka Gandhi had got detained by the police when, as the police claims, she attempted to trespass the police ban to meet the deceased families and she spent her entire day in Sonbhadra without power and water in what Rahul gandhi described as an attempt to suppress the democracy.
