Smiles, greetings, and takeaways...MK Stalin's day with the school students in Delhi!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is currently on his Delhi tour where he had met Prime Minister Modi on Thursday - March 31 and is all set to inaugurate DMK's new office in the capital on Saturday - April 2. In the midst of a well-packed agenda, the Chief Minister has on Friday visited a government school in Delhi and interacted with the students. 

Besides the officials from the Tamil Nadu government, MK Stalin was accompanied by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. During this brief tour, MK Stalin had exchanged smiles, greetings, and takeaways on how the Delhi school education functions. The officials of the Delhi government have briefed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister about the change in the education system in Delhi under Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi government.

MK Stalin was informed that the Delhi government has been spending around 25 per cent of its budget on education consistently for the last six to seven years. The visitor was warmly greeted by the students when he arrived at the school and MK Stalin was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Irai Anbu and Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. 

A Delhi government official told MK Stalin, "In 2014-15, government schools had a pass percentage of 88 in Class 12 which was less than private schools. It increased to 98 per cent in 2019-2020 as compared to 92 per cent in private schools." Stalin has also briefed the school education in Tamil Nadu to the officials of the Delhi government. He said that the Tamil Nadu government has been replicating Delhi's model schools in the state.

In what has become a takeaway for MK Stalin, Kejriwal said that the government schools in Delhi have tied up with the British Council and the US Embassy to train teachers in English. Kejriwal further said that the principals of government schools are sent for training abroad and teachers are trained at the Indian Institutes of Management. Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has said that the Delhi government is moving children away from rote learning to mindful learning. 

Kejriwal has also briefed MK Stalin about the new education board, happiness curriculum, deshbhakti curriculum, and entrepreneurship programme. The Delhi Chief Minister further told MK Stalin that his government is focused on improving school infrastructure in the first few years. Kejriwal said," We have sports facilities, including swimming pools. One cannot even think of swimming schools in government schools. We have a very good infrastructure." 

After noting down the functioning of a government school in Delhi, MK Stalin said, "After coming to power in Tamil Nadu, we have been giving the highest priority to the education and medical sectors. Just like how model schools are functioning in Delhi, we are doing in Tamil Nadu too. We will invite Chief Minister Kejriwal after the completion of work there. He should come, I invite him on behalf of the Tamil Nadu people."
