Sitting DMK MLA arrested for opening fire against the rival party man!

The Tiruporur police department in Tamil Nadu has, on Sunday, arrested sitting MLA of the constituency Idhayavarman, who belongs to the DMK party, for reportedly opening fire at the car that belongs to the rival party man over a land dispute. 

DMK MLA Idhayavarman had opened the fire at the car of real estate agent Kumar and his brother Thandavamurthy near Sengani Amman Kovil in Thiruporur on Saturday. Thandavamurthy has been the functionary of TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK party. According to the reports, the lawmaker has been accused of firing the AMMK party man, real estate agent, and his supporters.

The police department has been probing the matter and investigating both sides. The officials say that the police department had received a complaint from both sides against each other and an FIR has been booked against both sides under section 420 and the police personnel is carrying out further investigations. 

The police had seized two guns that were used during the firing. There has been a land dispute between the DMK lawmaker and Kumar and the latter has brought nearly 50 men from outside of the town. During the altercation, the members of the DMK MLA's side have sustained minor knife injuries while the members from Kumar's side reported no injuries.

Along with the two main parties, the police had booked cases against 70 people in connection to the incident. The AMMK functionary claimed that DMK MLA Idhayavarman, his father, and his supporters had surrounded their car and reportedly attacked them when they were on their way to visit Kumar's land.  

On the other side, DMK MLA stated that real estate agent Kumar has been intruding on the lands of the village people. While they blamed each other, the police had booked them under section 420 and DMK MLA Idhayavarman has been arrested on Sunday in connection to the case.  Idhayavarman, who contested from DMK party, was elected as the MLA of Thiruporur constituency in the by-elections that held in 2019.
