The Madras High Court has ordered actor Silambarasan, popularly known as Simbu, to pay a surety of Rs 1 crore in the case filed by the makers of ‘Corona Kumar’. The court has also directed the actor to file an affidavit stating that he will not act in any other film until he completes ‘Corona Kumar’.
The case was filed by Vels Film International, who had signed a contract with Simbu to act in the film ‘Corona Kumar’, which was planned to be a comedy entertainer based on the COVID-19 pandemic. The film producers had committed to pay Simbu Rs 9.5 crore for his acting services, and an advance of Rs 4.5 crore had already been paid.
Unfortunately, the makers have accused Simbu of failing to cooperate with them and declining to attend the film shoot due to multiple reasons. They also claimed that Simbu had breached the contract by acting in other films without their consent. They sought the court’s intervention to restrain Simbu from acting in any other film and to direct him to complete ‘Corona Kumar’.
Simbu, on the other hand, denied the allegations and said that he had not received any script or schedule from the makers. He also said that he had returned the advance amount of Rs 4.5 crore and that he was willing to act in ‘Corona Kumar’ if the makers were ready.
The court, after hearing both sides, ordered Simbu to pay a surety of Rs 1 crore within two weeks and to file an affidavit stating that he will not act in any other film until he completes ‘Corona Kumar’. The court also warned Simbu that if he fails to comply with the order, he will face contempt of court charges.
The case has created a buzz in the Tamil film industry, as Simbu is known for his controversial and flamboyant image. The actor has been involved in several legal disputes with his co-stars and producers in the past. He is next to work, ’STR48' with RKFI of Kamal Hassan, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu 2 with Gautham Vasudev Menon.
