In a shocking piece of news, a relative of the slain DMK functionary was beaten to death in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The deceased woman was identified as 32-year-old Ramya, who was the daughter-in-law of DMK functionary Dravida Balu, who was murdered in 2013. The police have attributed the death of Ramya to a family dispute. 

The incident happened on Sunday night at Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur and while Ramya was beaten to death, three other family members were injured and have been hospitalized. According to the police, a 22-year-old Bhuvan Kumar alias Vishal was the accused and he stormed into Ramya's residence at around 10 pm on Sunday and brutally attacked Ramya and her family members. 

Bhuvan Kumar is an engineering graduate and a son of Sathiyavelu, who was Ellapuram panchayat union secretary. Sathiyavelu is the younger brother of Dravida Balu, who was killed in 2013 by a gang of six members that hurled crude bombs at him. Brothers Dravida Balu and Sathiyavelu had a dispute over a property and it has been growing even after Balu's death. 

Dravida Balu's wife, 65-year-old Selvi, their son 42-year-old Murugan, his wife Ramya and their son 15-year-old Karunanidhi were living at a house in Kannikapier near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur. While they were in their home, Bhuvan Kumar entered the residence and began attacking them with an iron rod. All four were severely injured while Ramya died due to injuries. 

The injured people clamoured after being attacked and the neighbours rushed to the spot during which Bhuvan Kumar fled the scene. The Periyapalayam police was informed about the incident and after reaching the spot, the officials had sent Ramya's body to perform an autopsy and the injured were taken to a hospital. The police have filed a case against Bhuvan Kumar under the grounds of murder and later, apprehended him and took into custody.
