In a shocking development, a Corona patient, who was getting treated at a private hospital in Chennai, was found hanging at the hospital. The incident has happened in the night hours of Monday and the police had launched a probe, and the body of the deceased was sent to the autopsy.
According to reports, 57-year-old Rangan, who was a native of Hasthinapuram, Chrompet in Chennai had tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection and he was getting treated at the Corona ward in a private hospital in Kelambakkam in the outskirts of Chennai. He was admitted to the hospital on April 16 and on the night hours of Monday - April 19, he was found hanging.
The reports say that on Monday, he had asked the hospital staff to allow him to see his wife and daughters. However, the staff had refused his request by citing that his wife and daughters could contract the virus if they come to the Corona ward. The staff had then asked Rangan to wait for two more days to meet his family members.
However, Rangan was said to be upset over not being allowed to meet his family and he hadn't mingled with the medical staff at the ward properly. The workers of the hospital had found him hanging by the window on the third floor of the hospital in the night hours on Monday. After knowing the development, the police had rushed to the hospital and launched a probe into his health.
His body was recovered and sent to the Chengalpet government hospital for the autopsy. On Tuesday, the state has reported nearly 11,000 fresh cases in a day. It has reported 10,986 cases, the highest single-day rise since the outbreak began, 6,250 discharges, and 48 deaths. According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has recorded 10,13,378 cases so far as of Tuesday of which 79,804 are active, 9,20,369 have been discharged, and 13,205 had succumbed to the viral infection.
