Shocking: TN Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa, the great-grandson of 'Periyar' passes away at 46!

In a shocking piece of news, Tamil Nadu Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa has passed away on Wednesday - January 4 at the age of 46 due to heart attack. The deceased legislator was the first time MLA and he got elected to the assembly from the Erode East constituency after winning the 2021 assembly polls. His untimely demise had saddened the party and several political leaders have been paying tribute and expressing condolences to the bereaving family. 

Thirumahan Everaa was the son of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader EVKS Elangovan. Notably, the deceased MLA was the great-grandson of Periyar EV Ramasamy, who is being celebrated as the Dravidian stalwart and social reformer. According to reports, Everaa had complained of breathing difficulty during the morning hours of Wednesday after which he was rushed to a private hospital in Erode. 

However, he breathed his last due to cardiac arrest at around 12.30 pm. His demise has drawn attention beyond the state and Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his tribute to the deceased legislator. Condoling the death of the MLA of the allied Congress party, MK Stalin said, "Everaa had won the affection of everyone (in the Assembly) through his calm and responsible demeanmours and respect for senior members in the House." 

In a condolence message, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president KS Alagiri expressed shock and anguish over Everaa's demise and said that he was a progressive young person. "His demise is an irreparable loss to the Congress", Alagiri added. Jairam Ramesh, who is the general secretary of the Congress party, has also expressed his shock on the demise of Everaa. 

Taking to Twitter, Jairam Ramesh wrote, "Absolutely shocked to learn of the sudden demise of my 46-year old colleague E. Thirumahan Everaa. He was a MLA in Tamil Nadu representing Erode East and one of the best of his generation. A huge loss for Congress and for politics!". In the 2021 assembly polls, Everaa contested in the Congress ticket from the Erode East constituency and he won the race by defeating ADMK candidate Yuvaraja at a margin of over 8000 votes.
