A 25-year-old woman techie in Tamil Nadu has died by suicide by inhaling helium gas. She was found dead at her residence on Saturday and the police have launched a probe into her death. The techie was a native of Gobichettipalayam in the Erode district.
The deceased is identified as Indhu and she was a resident of Polavakkalipalayam village near Gobichettipalayam. As an IT professional, she was working at a software company in Chennai. It's been four months since she married 27-year-old Vishnu Sarathy from Erode and the couple was living in Chennai. According to the Times of India, Indu came to visit her ailing grandmother on Friday night.
Deputy Superintendent of Police of Gobichettipalayam, Shyamala Devi said Indhu had lunch on Saturday after which she informed her parents that she was going to take a rest. However, she didn't come out of her room for a long time. At 7.30 pm, her parents knocked on the door only to have no response from the other end.
As their daughter didn't respond, they looked inside the room through a gap in the door and found that Indhu was lying dead on the bed. Her parents immediately alerted the Gobichettipalayam police and the cops reached the spot. They broke the door and were shocked to know that Indhu ended her life by inhaling the helium gas. The body was recovered and it was sent to the government hospital in Perundurai to perform an autopsy.
DSP Shyamala Devi further said, "The deceased covered her face with a plastic bag. Through a small gap in the bag, she inhaled helium using a pipe that was attached to a helium cylinder. She bought the helium gas cylinder through an online portal on September 12. The cylinder was delivered to her residence and she told her parents that the helium was to fill balloons." She then left for Chennai and came back to her residence on Friday.
On Saturday, she inhaled the helium gas to end her life. She has left no suicide note and as the reason behind her death is yet to be ascertained, the police are probing the matter and besides the police investigation, the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Gobichettipalayam is also been probing the case as she has ended her within a year of her marriage. As per the rule, RDO has to investigate the deaths that occur within one year of the marriage.
