A day after the special sub-inspector of Tamil Nadu Police was brutally murdered in Trichy, the police department had on Monday apprehended three people in connection to the murder and of these three, two were juveniles. On Sunday, Boominathan, who was a special sub-inspector attached to Navalpattu police station of Trichy rural police, was hacked to death by goat thieves who were escaping with a stolen goat on a two-wheeler in the wee hours. 

According to reports, Boominathan was chasing them on his two-wheeler and nabbed them near a railway gate at Mani Vijay Nagar in Pallathupatti in Pudukottai. However, the thieves had begun to attack Boominathan and brutally murdered him and fled the spot. The body of Boominathan was later recovered and the incident had shocked across and beyond the state and the Keeranur police in the Pudukottai district had filed a case against the murder.

On Sunday, hours after Boominathan's murder, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of the deceased cop and a government job to a member of his family. Boominathan's body was laid to rest at Cholamadevi in Trichy with full state honours. The police had launched a manhunt to arrest the culprits and deployed four special teams to trace them. 

The police had a breakthrough on Monday as they had arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Boominathan. Of these three persons, two were juveniles and shockingly, one of them was aged 9 and the other was 14. The other accused has been identified as 19-year-old Manikandan, a native of Thanjavur district. The minors, who are school students, belong to the Pudukottai district. In an official statement, the police said that the investigation with the arrested persons has been underway. 

It has been reported that Boominathan was on his night rounds at Poolangudi colony on the outskirts of Trichy, during which the crime occurred. When Boominathan caught the trio for stealing a goat, they had begun attacking him with sharp weapons on his head and killing him on the spot.
