In a shocking piece of news, popular Tamil movie lyricist Kabilan's daughter Thoorigai died of suicide on Friday in Chennai. She was widely known for being a versatile woman. She was found hanging at her residence and the police have launched a probe into her death. Several celebrities of Kollywood have been expressing condolences to the lyricist's family.
She was living in Arumbakkam, Chennai. Thoorigai was a costume designer and writer, who launched her own publication 'Being Women Magazine' in September 2020. It was launched by popular directors Pa Ranjith and Cheran and actress Vimala Raman. While her father penned lyrics for everlasting songs, Thoorigai had done costume design for popular Tamil actors including GV Prakash Kumar and Ashok Selvan.
Often dubbed as a strong woman, Thoorigai's suicide has shocked her dear ones and well-wishers and drawn major attention. She was found hanging in her room on Friday and the local police have sent the body to a hospital in Saligramam. The officials have recovered her mobile phone and investigating her family members about what could have prompted her to take this extreme step.
While the reason behind her suicide is yet to be known, some reports have quoted the preliminary investigations that Thoorigai was suffering from depression and that her parents were urging her to get married. The police are also investigating whether she was in a relationship that was opposed by her parents.

The song was sung by Shreya Ghoshal, Palakkad Sreeram, and Mahesh Vinayakram. As an actor, Kabilan has appeared in Kamal Haasan's 'Dasavathaaram' in a cameo role. He has won Vijay Award for Best Lyricist for the song 'Aaathangara Orathil' from the movie Yaan.
