The Tamil film industry is in shock and grief after the sudden demise of actor-director G Marimuthu, who passed away on Friday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 56 years old and had worked in over 75 movies as an actor, director, and writer.
Marimuthu started his career as a director with the 2008 romantic comedy Kannum Kannum, starring Prasanna and Udhayathara. He then directed Pulivaal in 2014, a remake of the Malayalam film Chaappa Kurishu, starring Prasanna and Vimal. He debuted as a actor with Ajithkumar's Vaali in 1999.
However, Marimuthu was more popular as an actor, especially for his negative roles. He played the villain in several films, such as Yudham Sei, Komban, Pariyerum Perumal, NImirndhu Nil. He rose to internet fame for his role as Gunasekaran in a Sun TV soap opera.
Marimuthu’s last film was Jailer, which was released on August and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. Many celebrities from the Tamil film industry expressed their condolences and paid tribute to Marimuthu on social media.
They remembered him as a talented and versatile artist who had contributed to various genres of cinema. They also conveyed their sympathies to his family and fans. Marimuthu is survived by his wife and two children. His funeral was held on Saturday at his native village in Madurai district.
