In yet another appalling incident of violence against women in Tamil Nadu, a seven-year-old girl belong to a village near Aranthangi, Pudukottai district has horrifically assaulted and murdered and her body was found on Wednesday in a forest in her village.
According to the reports, a seven-year-old Dalit girl went missing from outside her residence on June 30 around 4 pm while she was playing. After her parents found that she has gone missing, the girl's father lodged a complaint at the local police station around 7 pm on the same day following which the police started the investigation to locate the girl.
On July 1 - Wednesday, the police found the body of the girl in the forest area in the village and it was found that she had badly suffered injures. The police went doubtful on the conduct of the girl's neighbor Raja after which the officers questioned him and during the investigation, Raja confessed that he had assaulted the girl sexually and murdered her.
Raja is 25-years-old and he belongs to the Pandaram caste. Based on his confession, he was arrested and the police had filed an FIR against him under murder charges.
The girl's body was sent to autopsy and the report is awaited and based on the autopsy report, it can be ascertained whether the accused must be booked under the sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act in the First Information Report (FIR).
The reports stated that police would carry out further investigations based on the autopsy report. As Tamil Nadu has been witnessing huge outrages in the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and Bennicks which erupted the voices for justices to the victims, this awful incident of assaulting and murdering a seven-year-old girl shocked the state on the prevailing violence against women.
The activists, opposition leaders, and common people have been demanding justice for the assaulted girl and Twitteratis have been trending on the hashtag demanding justice for the girl. DMK President Stalin took to Twitter and said that the sexual assault incident on the seven-year-old girl near Aranthangi has shocked the state and further stated that such incidents must be brought to an end.
