Shocking in Chennai: Another pothole accident in a week! Check how a couple narrowly escaped!

In a shocking piece of news, Chennai has recorded another dreadful accident due to a pothole, which is the second one in a week, where a couple had crashed with the government bus and narrowly escaped death. Showcasing how potholes are rampant across the city, this incident had threatened the residents who are already been suffering from the disruptions caused by the incessant rainfall. The back-to-back incidents had also pressed the government that fixing these craters on road is need of an hour. 

According to reports, the latest incident has happened on Tuesday in Otteri, Chennai. A shocking visual from the scene had shown that a man was trying to stop his bike on the side of the road and he has a woman as a pillion rider. He stops his vehicle and stepped into a pothole filled with rainwater, due to which it was not visible. After he stepped into the pothole, he suddenly lost his balance over his bike and when a government bus was passing by on their right, the duo had fallen off the bike and crashed with the bus. 

The mishap was frightening and the duo had narrowly escaped from the mishap and they sustain no severe injury. After knowing that the duo had crashed on the bus, the bus was stopped and the woman was seen lying on the road, beneath the back gate of the bus while the man of seen lifting the bike from the ground. Though they escaped, potholes are something that haunts the commuters and became a matter of serious concern.

Last week, on November 1, a 32-year-old Chennai based techie Mohammed Yunus had died because of a pothole on the busy Anna Salai. Yunus was riding his two-wheeler and he was on his way to the office. When he crossed the Little mount area in Saidapet, he lost his balance due to a pothole and within a fraction of seconds, he fell under a government bus that was riding next to him and eventually died. The incident had taken place at around 8.45 am on November 1 and the city bus was travelling from Besant Nagar to Vadapalani. 

The CCTV footage had shown that Yunus had lost the balance suddenly after hitting a pothole and his two-wheeler had collided with the city bus running on his left. Yunus fell under the bus and he was crushed by the rear wheel and died on the spot. The shocking incident had startled the people on the spot and after knowing the development, the Guindy traffic police had rushed to the spot and the officials had recovered the CCTV footage for further investigation. Yunus was a resident of Nanganallur, Chennai and worked as a software engineer at a private company in the city. 

His body was sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for an autopsy and the government bus driver was arrested. A case has been booked against the driver under the sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act for causing death due to negligence and rash driving. It must be noted that Yunus was seen wearing the helmet during the incident and the reports say that the pothole has caused due to heavy rains. After the accident, the Tamil Nadu state highway department, which maintains the road where the accident took place, had filled the pothole with sand.
