Vijay Sethupathi's 'sword' birthday celebration has invited trouble to the actor as the Chennai city police have been considering to launch legal action against him for what the actor was strongly flayed for setting a bad precedent. 

According to reports, the Chennai police are considering to register a criminal case against Vijay Sethupathi after the visuals had shown the actor was seen celebrating his birthday by cutting the cake with a sword. The photo has got widely shared across social media, stirring debate and controversies. Many Netizens had described that the actor has set a bad example at a high time when the culture of 'sword' cake cutting has been rampant in the city and across the state. 

After the photo had invited trouble for him, Vijay Sethupathi had issued a clarification and an apology. He turned 43 on Saturday and in his clarification, he said that was taken three days back at a shooting spot of his upcoming movie with director Ponram in which the sword has a role. He stated, "According to the movie's story, a sword will play an important role. So, I cut the cake with that sword when I celebrated my birthday with the crew of the movie". 

The actor admitted that the incident has stirred a debate. He said, "the incident has stirred a debate with many commenting it as a bad precedent. Henceforth, I will carefully deal with such issues and I'm apologizing for the act if it had hurt anyone". However, the visual wasn't pleased by the users and the police department as Chennai police are considering to book a criminal case against the actor. 

Police said that they are considering legal experts to file a criminal case against the actor. Many had asked the police to take action against the actor like how they took action against a few hooligans and young people who celebrated their birthdays by cutting the cake with the sword. The users who urge the police to take action against Vijay Sethupathi said that the law is equal for all and police should register a case against the actor for using the sword to cut his birthday cake. 

It must be noted that the state had shocked to witness such an act in 2018 when rowdy Binu in Chennai was arrested after cutting the cake with a sword and the city has been witnessing such acts in recent times and the police had been taking action against the responsible and a similar call of taking action against Vijay Sethupathi has emerged after he was seen cutting the cake with the sword.

His braveness and audacity were apparent when he has played antagonist against actor Vijay in the recently released 'Master'. The movie has become a Pongal treat for the fans and audiences and it hit the screens on January 13. Vijay Sethupathi plays as Bhavani in the movie delivering the real taste of villain while Vijay clashes with him to save the children in the juvenile center. The movie has been dominating the box office with significant revenue and relishing reception across and beyond the borders.
