Shocker in UP...Expired medicines distributed to the COVID-19 patients!

In a shocking development, a Chief Medical Officer in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh has invited trouble after distributing the expired medicines to the COVID-19 patients. A show-cause notice has been served to the medical officer over the matter along with receiving a strong warning for distributing such medicines. 

According to reports, Chief Medical Officer Umesh Tripathi has been accused of distributing COVID-19 medical kits with expired medicines to the patients. One of the patients had complained about the distribution of expired medicines to the District Magistrate and said that one of the medicines in the kit having an expiry of January 2020, before the pandemic hit India. 

Etah district magistrate (DM) Vibha Chalal took action against Umesh Tripathi and warned him of strict action for putting the lives of patients in danger. The reports say that the patients who received the expired medicines were at home isolation and further stated that the allegation against Tripathi was verified and confirmed after an investigation into the matter.  

The incident had come to light on Thursday and Tripathi said that four government employees, who were assigned the duty of packaging, were issued notice along with the additional Chief Medical Officer Ram Singh, in charge of the medical corporation. The apathy over supplying the expired medicine to the Corona hit patients had shocked the state and put the government's medical contribution into scrutiny.

The medical kits have been recalled to the office of the Medical Officer. Malaria Officer Lokman Singh said during the investigation, it was found that the box had medicines that expired in January last year and the rest were with the expiry date of June this year. According to reports, Uttar Pradesh had witnessed another shocking incident where the health workers in Siddharthnagar district had on Wednesday administered the Covaxin vaccine to twenty villagers who were inoculated with the Covishield vaccine in the first dose.
