In a shocking piece of news, an ADMK functionary was brutally killed on the outskirts of Chennai by a mob on the night hours of Monday. The mob of four men had hacked the functionary to death after he alerted the police about the sale and racket of drugs in Sholavaram. While two of the four suspects had surrendered, the police had launched the probe into the matter and the officials are also investigating any other reason behind the murder than providing tip-off about the racket.
According to reports, 32-year-old Silambarasan of MGR Nagar was a unit secretary of ADMK and he was standing outside his home around 11.30 pm on Monday during which a gang had arrived on two-wheelers. In the midst of dark ambience, the gang had dragged him about 200 meters away after which they started attacking him with a sickle. They left Silambarasan and fled from the spot. The ADMK functionary began to scream and a neighbour, after hearing his voice, rushed to the spot and was shocked to see Silambarasan's condition.
The neighbour had alerted others. However, Silambarasan had died on the spot and the neighbours had informed the police about the incident. Based on the information, the Sholavaram police had reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy. Hours later, 23-year-old Tamilselvan and 22-year-old Ranjithkumar of the same locality had surrendered before the Sholavaram police for killing the ADMK functionary. However, the other two suspects are still at large and the police had launched a manhunt to nab them.
During the investigation, Tamilselvan and Ranjithkumar had confessed to the police that they had murdered Silambarasan as he had frequently passed information about the sale of drugs to the police. The duo has said that they had suspicions over the ADMK functionary that he was informing the police about the drug supply and they had warned him. But, Silambarasan kept on informing about the gang's drug sale by ignoring their warning after which they had decided to murder him.
Silambarasan was surviving by his wife and daughter and a report, quoting the sources, said that the gang had sold the drugs in small packets after smuggling it from Andhra Pradesh. They had caused disruption in the locality and Silambarasan was giving information about the gang and its sale of drugs to the police. Despite the warnings from them, the ADMK functionary had provided tip-off to the police and they had finally decided to kill them. The gang had arrived at his residence on Monday night and hacked him to death. While two of the suspects had surrendered, the officials are looking for the other two and the police are also investigating whether there was any other reason behind the murder.
