As the state of Tamil Nadu is just months away for the legislative elections, the political parties have been initiating the talks to chalk out the alliance and the seats to contest in the polls, and whenever such negotiations began, it would stir the speculations on the outcome of the talks on the alliance and as the election is approaching, it has raised the speculations whether the political matrix will change or will existing alliance would continue.
The ruling ADMK party has been observing alliance with the Central ruling BJP and both had contested together in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls only to concede a major defeat. When the ADMK leadership and Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan said that the alliance would likely stay and continue in the 2021 polls, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has said that the party is open to all options.
Addressing the reporters in the state, Pon Radhakrishnan said that the party has formed the current alliance for the Lok Sabha polls and the alliance for the upcoming legislative elections will be formed again ahead of the elections. By asserting the new alliance, the BJP leader had hinted a 'new' relationship with the rival party. He said that the new alliance can be with the DMK or the ADMK party or with neither of them and the Central ruling party may work out to form a different alliance, without the Dravidian parties.
When Pon Radhakrishnan spelled that the party is open for the alliance not only with the ADMK but also with DMK, it had sparked speculations across the state and apparently erupted a division with the ADMK party. Responding to the BJP leader's remarks, the ADMK slammed the BJP and said that the state ruling party can't take the word of every BJP leader.
ADMK Minister Jayakumar said that the party can't pave a response to the BJP if the leaders of the Central ruling party roll out different notions on the alliance. Hours after the remarks from Pon Radhakrishnan, state BJP leader Vanathi maintained the ADMK alliance remains strong, with giving no confirmation that the alliance will continue for the state assembly polls.
The talk of the ADMK alliance has come at a high time when the ADMK party announced that Edappadi Palaniswami would be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the party for the 2021 polls. Vanathi said that the alliance is strong and the party can't talk about the future alliance.
When Pon Radhakrishnan said anything is possible -either an alliance with the ADMK or DMK or with any other parties, DMK treasurer TR Baalu had ruled out such possibilities for the DMK and BJP alliance. Radhakrishnan's remarks had sparked an intra-party furor after his statement had gone contrary to BJP Tamil Nadu President, who earlier asserted that the ADMK led NDA alliance will be winning the polls and forming a new government in 2021.
