Senior Tamil Nadu BJP leader and general secretary of the state unit KT Raghavan has tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection on Tuesday and he has been getting treated at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai.
Raghavan is known for being a party's face in the television debates and as a general secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Central ruling party, he had been participating in the party's events. As the state legislative election is just months away, the party has been preparing for the campaigns amid the rapid spread of the pandemic.
According to reports, Raghavan was appointed as the party's in-charge for the 12 northern districts in the state including Thiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Kallakurichi, and Krishnagiri. Following this, he has been reviewing the booth committees and party related works in these districts ahead of the assembly polls.
The reports say he had developed a cold last week and later, he has complained of fever following which he had taken COVID-19 testing and the results confirmed that he had contracted to the global pandemic on Tuesday. Following the development, he has admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai for further treatment.
By getting tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Raghavan has become one of the senior leaders in the state unit to get affected for the pandemic. Earlier, state BJP leaders L Ganesan and CP Radhakrishnan had been spelled positive for the pandemic. So far, over dozens of MLAs including senior ministers in Tamil Nadu had tested positive for the viral infection and one of the legislators -DMK's J Anbalagan had succumbed to the disease.
As of Tuesday -September 29, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,91,943 positive cases so far of which 46,281 are active, 5,36,209 have been recovered, and 9,453 had succumbed to the viral infection.
