Tamil Nadu is just eleven days ahead of the crucial assembly polls and the political parties are unveiling a strong fight against the rivals to win the polls. While they unveil the battle, the Income Tax sleuths are in the process of storming the residences of senior leaders to unearth the tax evasion.
Giving a major shock to DMK President MK Stalin, the officials from the Income Tax Department had stormed into the residence of the senior party's candidate and they have been carrying out the raid at several properties belong to the candidate. According to reports, EV Velu is the DMK's candidate for the Tiruvannamalai constituency for the upcoming assembly polls. Velu is one of the senior leaders close to the party's high command and he owns several properties in the district.
Amid the prevalence of the anti-ADMK wave, Velu has been staunchly campaigning in the constituency and he will be taking on BJP's Thanigachalam, who will be contesting as part of the ADMK- BJP alliance. Given the cruciality of the polls, the Election Commission has deployed officials throughout the state to check the movements of the vehicles with the view of barricading the transportation of money and curbing the parties to distribute cash to the voters in their process of seeking votes.
Along with the Election Commission, the Income Tax department has also been carrying out raids at the properties of the leaders based on the inputs. Days after raiding the properties of Makkal Needhi Maiam's Treasurer where it had unearthed crores of money, the Income Tax department had turned its drone towards DMK's EV Velu as the team of IT Sleuths had unfolded the search on Velu's properties in Thiruvannamalai on Thursday.
The reports say that the officials had entered the properties based on the inputs that Velu, who was also the former minister under DMK's regime, has held money at his properties to distribute to the voters ahead of the assembly polls. The Income Tax department has been carrying out the raids at around ten properties belong to EV Velu including his residence, his college, and his trust. The raid is under process even at the time of writing this content.
The raid had shocked MK Stalin as when IT sleuths entered Velu residences to conduct the search, Stalin had entered Thiruvannamalai to campaign for Velu and to seek the voters to elect him as their representative in the upcoming assembly polls. Our sources say that the IT officials had arrived in around 20 vehicles and have been conducting the search to ascertain whether Velu had earthed money to distribute to the voters and the officials had also conducted the search at Velu's college, where Stalin stayed before he began his campaign in Thiruvannamalai.
