The state of Tamil Nadu is inching towards the crucial assembly poll, which is just a week away. As the parties are unfolding heated campaigns across the state, the national leaders are visiting the state for the final drive of the campaign, which will end on April 4. As part of that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had arrived in Dharapuram, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday to campaign for the BJP-ADMK candidates.
With the view of greeting the Prime Minister and attending his campaign trial, several ADMK leaders and ministers had marched to Dharapuram. Senior Tamil Nadu Minister SP Velumani and House Speaker Dhanapal were driving to attend Modi's election rally. However, both of them had faced untoward incidents on their way as their convoys had met with an accident, leaving them to shift to another car to reach the spot before the Prime Minister arrives.
According to reports, Velumani and Dhanapal, who are contesting in the upcoming polls in ADMK's ticket, were traveling to Dharapuram and two security cars in their convoys had met with an accident near Surianallur toll gate in Dharapuram. Both the minister and the speaker had faced no injuries and they were transported to their destination in separate cars. The police had launched a probe into the untoward incidents.
The visuals from the spot had shown that the security cars had sustained heavy damages. The windshield of the car that belonged to Speaker Dhanapal had witnessed a large crack as the sequel of the collision and the front bumper of the vehicle had also suffered substantial damage. The reports say that a crane was called to the spot to remove the Speaker's car. Another visual had shown that the front and the rear bumper of SP Velumani's security car was largely damaged as the front bumper was seen lying on the road.
The reports further stated that the convoys of the Minister and the Speaker rammed into each other while they were crossing Kuppana Kovil at Dharapuram. Though the minister and speaker escaped unhurt, two security personnel had sustained minor injuries. The probe is on to ascertain how the accident took place. The development had shocked the ADMK members and leaders at a high time when they have been campaigning for the crucial polls.
BJP is contesting in the polls by forming an alliance with the ADMK and the ruling party had awarded 20 assembly seats to the Central ruling party.
