Days after Tamil Nadu witnessed the rise of a crucial alliance between veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarathkumar in the upcoming assembly polls, Sarathkumar, who is the founder of Samathuva Makkal Katchi (SMK), has on Wednesday said that the deal has been sealed to form an alliance with Kamal Haasan in what has become another significant front in the legislative elections.
Tamil Nadu will be going to the single-phase polls on April 6 and the results will be announced on May 2. The state will most likely witness four to five fronts on the field - ADMK and its alliance, DMK and its alliance, Seeman's Naam Tamilar party, Dhinakaran's AMMK, and Kamal Haasan- Sarathkumar alliance. Recently, Sarathkumar had quitted from ADMK and joined hands with Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK), which exited from the DMK alliance.
In what has become a sudden twist in the political arena, Sarathkumar had met Kamal Haasan and called him to join the alliance. Following the meeting with the Chief of Makkal Needhi Maiam, Sarathkumar expressed the hope that Kamal Haasan will take a good decision. The unfolding of high-level political drama had sparked fresh debates around the actors and days after the meeting, Sarathkumar has on Wednesday said that Makkal Needhi Maiam, Samathuva Makkal Katchi, and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi have sealed an alliance.
While addressing a party event in the Pudukottai district on Wednesday, Sarathkumar said that Kamal Haasan will be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the alliance. According to reports, though Sarathkumar had announced the alliance, there has been no official announcement from the Makkal Needhi Maiam on the formation of the third front and it has been expected that the talks within the alliance over the seat-sharing and constituencies will begin soon.
Addressing the event, Sarathkumar had slammed Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and said, "Someone told me that all the parties are functioning based on caste and people told me that I can also get 23 seats if I start threatening people. But I said no because I want equality to win. However, I still endorse that the love for the race should be there in the heart".
The actor turned politician further added, "From now on they will be knowing my strength and they will know when we contest in Radhapuram, Kovilpatti, and when we contest 26 southern constituencies. We will step back in certain constituencies but we will contest in the constituencies that we want". Earlier in the event, Sarathkumar was again got elected as the President of the party.
The event had also witnessed the rise of Radhika Sarathkumar to active politics. During the event, SMK Deputy General Secretary Vivekanandan said that Radhika Sarathkumar will contest from Velachery as part of the SMK alliance. Addressing the event, Radhika said Sarathkumar will bow only to the affection and he is here to contest since he hopes he will get everyone's affection and added that this election will bring change.
According to reports, MNM's Governing council member CK Kumaravel had also submitted an application to contest from Velachery and if the alliance decides to keep Kumaravel in Velachery, Radhika will contest from Kovilpatti constituency for the upcoming polls. This is the first time that Radhika will contest in the polls as earlier, she only had campaigned for Sarathkumar when the latter had contested in Tiruchendur constituency in the 2016 Lok Sabha polls as part of the ADMK alliance.
However, he had lost the election and he has now switched the side and joined with Kamal Haasan by alleging that ADMK failed to initiate the alliance talks. Sarathkumar had recently met VK Sasikala in Chennai which shocked ADMK and maintained that he had met her to enquire about her health condition. As Sarathkumar had said that the deal for the third front has been made, it has been expected that Kamal Haasan will make an official announcement soon to begin the seat-sharing and constituencies.
