Tollywood is gearing up for another Pan-India release named Shaakuntalam, starring Samantha Prabhu as the eponymous character Shakuntala, after releasing record-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali 1 and 2 and RRR and wreaking havoc at the Indian box office and worldwide. The film's release date was announced in September, shortly after the first poster was unveiled.

For the first time in her film career, Samantha Prabhu ventures into a period drama, and its based on a play told in the epic Mahabharatha. Taking to Twitter, Sri Venkateswara Creations bankrolling the film, shared the poster and wrote, "Witness the #EpicLoveStory #Shaakuntalam in theatres near you from Feb 17th 2023 Worldwide! Also in 3D"

Written and directed by Gunasekhar, the film also stars Dev Mohan as Dushyantha,  the king of Puru Dynasty along with Aditi Balan, Allu Arha and Mohan Babu in supporting characters. The film will be hit theatres on 17th February, 2023 as per the official update. The film along with Sri Venkateswara Creations co -produced byGunaa Teamworks.

Shakunthala, considered to be the best of Kalidsa's works, is a Sanskrit play that dramatises the tale of Sakunthala as it appears in the epic Mahbhrata. This eagerly awaited adaptation is set in the backdrop of Hastinapur, some of Kashmir, and the Himalayan mountainside in Northern India.
