Mumbai Indians wanted to top the table. Rajasthan Royals desperately wanted to get into the top four. This had made this competition more interesting. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first.
It was a positive start for MI yet again with Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma providing a 49 run opening stand. Though de Kock fell soon, Rohit was steady. When things were going fine, Shreyas Gopal picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan back to back. This was a mini turning point in the game.
Suryakumar Yadav was the hero of Mumbai's innings. It was an outstanding innings from him as he scored runs from every part of the ground. His unbeaten 79 runs from 47 balls was a courageous knock. Rajasthan Royals were committing a lot of mistakes towards the death overs by dropping catches and conceding no balls. Mumbai Indians committed a blunder by sending Krunal Pandya ahead of Kieron Pollard but they managed to score 193 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to the real bad bowling from Rajasthan.
As a follow-up to their bowling performance, it was a disaster for Rajasthan early in their batting as well since they lost three wickets that included Steve Smith and Sanju Samson, for just 12 runs. Jos Buttler provided the much-needed energy and confidence for the chase.
He made batting look so easy and scored a terrific 70 runs from 44 balls that included 5 sixes before he lost his wicket to the tremendous catch by Pollard. Once Buttler was gone, the hopes of Rajasthan chasing the target came down.
Bumrah was the hero in Mumbai's bowling unit as he picked up 4 wickets for 20 runs. Mumbai Indians won the game comfortably by 57 runs. It was a splendid display of batting, bowling, and fielding (not to miss the two splendid catches) that has brought them yet another victory. The Mumbai Indians now stand at the top of the points table with 8 points. Things will get more enthralling in the upcoming matches.
The fans of Mumbai Indians had double delights from yesterday's match as along with the splendid victory through shining in all the departments, they also celebrated Rohit Sharma's new milestone after becoming the second player to play the highest number of the IPL games. With playing against the Rajasthan Royals, the hitman had become the second most-capped player in the IPL by playing 194 matches. He had surpassed Suresh Raina who had played 193 matches. Rohit's milestone was made possible by the absence of Suresh Raina who skipped the current season. With playing 194 matches, Rohit Sharma is just one match behind CSK skipper who also had played 194 matches. Though Rohit had set a milestone, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah must be credited for taking the team to the top of the table.
