Relief for former ADMK Minister Jayakumar...What's in his bail order?

In a huge relief for former ADMK Minister Jayakumar, Madras High Court has on Friday granted bail for him through which he will be walking out of prison now. He was taken into judicial custody for the alleged offence of land grabbing. It was the third case that was lodged against him while he had already secured bail in the first two cases.

Jayakumar was the second former ADMK minister to face an apprehension since the DMK came to power while his colleague Rajendra Balaji was the first one. Jayakumar had served as the Minister of Fisheries and also as the Assembly Speaker in the previous ADMK regime and he was arrested on February 19 under the first case of assaulting and parading a DMK cadre during the urban local body polls and later, he was arrested on the second case of protesting without permission on the day of polling.

The court has awarded judicial custody for Jayakumar till March 7 and March 9 for the first and second cases respectively. On February 25, the Chennai CCB Police had booked Jayakumar for land grabbing. It has been reported that Jayakumar had threatened a land proprietor and purchased a property worth Rs 5 crore at a meagre price. While he has got bail on the first two cases, he had moved his plea to get bail in the land grabbing case.

On Friday - March 11, the Madras High Court has granted bail for Jayakumar. High Court bench Justice AD Jagadish Chandira had given conditional bail to the former minister and directed him to stay in Trichy and appear before the Cantonment police station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for two weeks. After completing his appearances, Jayakumar has been ordered to appear before the Chennai CCB police every Monday until further orders.
