'This is the reason why I took photo': See what Udhayanidhi Stalin said on the photo of Vinayagar Idol!

Hours after his social media post with the idol of Vinayagar drawn major flak from within and across the party, DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin issued a clarification by asserting that he is an atheist and the photo was uploaded based on his daughter's wish.

DMK party, which is known for campaigning atheism and advocates to reject idol worship, wheeled through the controversy over its grip on its policies after DMK President Stalin's son Udayanidhi Stalin's post had sparked outrage. In the early morning hours of Monday, the actor turned politician had posted a photo of a pair of hands holding the idol of Lord Vinayagar, two days after the state celebrated Vinayagar Chathurthi.

Soon after he posted the photo, it had driven a spat and along with the BJP and the ruling ADMK, the members of the Dravidian party had slammed the DMK Youth wing leader. Hours after the development that boomeranged against him, Udayanidhi Stalin took to Twitter and issued a clarification and the reason behind the photo and asserted that he is an atheist.

He said that his mother had purchased an idol of Vinayagar for Vinayagar Chathurthi. He stated, "Upon seeing the statue last night, my daughter asked me how the statue was made. I said it was made up of clay and it would be immersed in water. My daughter again asked why the idol is immersed?. I said it was the custom and the new idol will be bought next year". The DMK Young leader said that his daughter wished to take a photo with the idol before it gets immersed and requested him to take a photo.

Udhayanidhi added, "I took the photo as per her wishes and shared the photo on my Twitter page as per her wishes", citing that his daughter's wish was the reason why he took photo. In his statement, he stated that "Neither my wife nor I believe in god. But everyone knows that my mother has the belief in god and she has a pooja room in our house". "The pooja room has photos of my ancestors and images of gods that my mother believes in and it's our custom that we stand before the pictures of our ancestors and remember them before taking any important decisions", Udayanidhi added.

His statement has come when he and the party had gone through criticism from the own party members whereas the Central ruling BJP and the state ruling ADMK had taken the prospect and highlighted that Udhayanidhi and the party have been making religion as their political party.

Responding to the criticisms, DMK's Young leader said the criticisms show that this is a conspiracy of opportunists and have been eyeing for prospects to convert everything that happens as anti-party despite there are many issues that the country has been facing today. While the rising leader had issued a clarification to dot up the controversy, the photo has been doing round over social media as the netizens have either been backing and lashing out the young leader.
