Rahul's Tamil Vanakkam: What's the aim of Rahul Gandhi in TN and how he shocked ADMK?

With months ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls and with heated speculations around him on his comeback as the President of the Congress party, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday with the pack of significant agendas to give a crucial push to the party in saving it from the eroding base. 

Rahul Gandhi has been unfolding his unprecedented political drive in Tamil Nadu to emerge as the powerful national party in the state by defeating the BJP and its coalition in the upcoming assembly polls. As the assembly polls would be the first state election since the demise of political giants Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. The first of its kind state tour from Rahul Gandhi has come at a high time when the Congress party is surfaced with speculations over its intra-party elections of electing the party's president and when the party is pushed to showcase its presence in the state to secure a decent allocation of seats and potential victories in the polls.  

Tamil Nadu is crucial for the Congress party as, after facing defeats in recent elections held in North India, the party must surge big in the southern states to fight equally with its rival BJP and as Kerala will also go for the assembly polls along with Tamil Nadu, Congress hopes to have a political breakthrough in both the states. Rahul's extensive tour to Tamil Nadu will also add favor to him when he has been expected to become the next full-time President of the party.  

Rahul Gandhi finds Tamil Nadu a better place to unveil these agendas and he has launched his political drive in Tamil Nadu by taking part in the state's traditional sport- Jallikattu. When he took a glimpse of the sport, he signaled the rivals that he is ready for the game.  Rahul Gandhi came to Madurai during the Pongal Holidays to see Jallikattu for the first time and ten days after his visit, he has arrived in Coimbatore on Saturday in his bid to cover the districts in the western belt, which is the stronghold for many ADMK leaders including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.  

Launching his political campaign as 'Rahul's Tamil Vanakkam',  Rahul Gandhi will be unveiling his campaign in Tamil Nadu on Saturday and he will be staying in Tamil Nadu for three days. According to the itinerary released by the party, Rahul Gandhi will carry out roadshows, interact with the MSMEs, industrial workers, farmers, and weavers in the Western districts of Coimbatore and Tirupur on Saturday and he has come with the agenda to cover more districts like Erode, Salem, Karur, and Dindigul during his three-day tour. 

Rahul Gandhi has arrived at Coimbatore airport at around 11 am on Saturday and he was welcomed by Tamil Nadu Congress President KS Alagiri, state Congress in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, and hundreds of party members who were gathered at the airport to give him a grand reception. Greeting the supporters, the Congress leader boarded in an open jeep and waved to the party workers, and also addressed them. Following the roadshow, Rahul Gandhi will visit the memorial pillar dedicated to Tiruppur Kumaran and pay floral tributes to the freedom fighter. 

He will also hold an interaction with industrial laborers at around 5.45 pm on Saturday and he would make better use of three days to cover maximum people in the western districts that are the stronghold of the Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK party. During his tour, he would meet and interact with the weavers in Erode and will hold a public meeting and on Monday, Rahul Gandhi would be touring Karur district where he would address a farmers' convention. After completing his tour on Monday, he would drive to Madurai from where he would board a special flight to Delhi.

In what could give a shock to the ADMK regime, Rahul's first of its kind tour of three days only in a particular region of a state holds national significance and his visit has displayed that the race for power in Tamil Nadu has got heated with hard-fought battles and unprecedented agendas. In his aim of establishing a close connect with the Tamil Nadu voters, Rahul Gandhi addressed the people amid his roadshow during which he flayed Narendra Modi. 

In his address, Rahul Gandhi said, "We believe there are multiple cultures and languages. We believe all languages including Tamil, Hindi, and Bengali have space. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no respect for the culture, language, and people of Tamil Nadu. Modi thinks Tamil people and language are subservient". The former Congress president also slammed PM Modi over his response to the farmers' protest and said, "what belongs to farmers is being taken away. That's why we stand with farmers. PM Modi partners with big businessmen in India who provide him media". 

Unveiling his campaign on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi took to the microblogging site and released a video, that collaged by the iconic and historical places of Tamil Nadu, and wrote, "I am delighted to be back in Tamil Nadu today to spend time with my Tamilian brothers and sisters in the Kongu belt. Together, we will defend & preserve the unique culture of the Tamils against the attacks by Modi govt."
