Tamil Nadu BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran, who is also the party's legislative head, has on Friday- April 22 turned heads through his demand to the MK Stalin govt over providing a car to the lawmakers. His speech and the comical response from the House Speaker have been going viral as the ongoing assembly session has been counting such hilarious events.
The ongoing assembly session has been debating the grant to the government departments during which the concerned ministers are addressing the grant provided to their departments for 2022-23 and responding to the questions from the lawmakers. On Friday, BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran was addressing the house and while addressing, he said, "Hon'ble Speaker, I heartily welcome the announcements of the Chief Minister towards strengthening the local bodies."
He further said, "At the same time, the Chief Minister's attention has now only reached panchayat members and union chairmen. This is despair that the Chief Minister's attention hasn't even reached the MLAs. So, it would be helpful if you (MK Stalin) consider providing a car to the lawmakers who are in need. I don't need it but at least government can consider giving a car to the lawmakers or it can provide interest-free loans to the MLAs to buy a car."
After he demanded a car to the lawmakers, House Speaker Appavu responded to Nainar Nagendran and his response had created laughter within the august house. Appavu said, "You (Nainar Nagendran) please speak with the Centre and get some money." The Speaker had put the ball in Nagendran's court as his party is ruling the Centre. Nagendran's demand to provide a car to the lawmakers has come after MK Stalin has announced several schemes to the local bodies including providing a vehicle to every panchayat chairman in Tamil Nadu to carry on their duties and review the development works in their respective areas.
While making announcements in the assembly on Friday under section 110, MK Stalin said that Tamil Nadu will mark Panchayat Raj Day on April 24 for which he has unveiled a slew of schemes to the local bodies. He said that during the previous DMK government, vehicles were provided to 385 panchayat chiefs. Citing that no such vehicle was given in the past 13 years, he announced that every Panchayat chairman in Tamil Nadu will be given a vehicle to carry out their duties. Following his announcement, the leaders of several parties had praised MK Stalin for his schemes for the local bodies.
