Famed for Premam and Neram, Alphonse Puthren collaborated for the first time with Ladysuperstar and Prithviraj Sukumaran on Gold. The film opened on December 1st, 2022, to middling to neutral reviews. Now the film is now nearing its premiere for OTT fans. Prithviraj Productions' Supriya Menon and Magic Frames' Listin Stephen served as producers.

The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, along with a supporting cast of Mallika Sukumaran, Shammi Thilakan, Lalu Alex, Baburaj, Ajmal Ameer, Shanthi Krishna, Jagadish, Krishna Sankar, Roshan Mathew, Vinay Forrt, and Saiju Kurup. As per official reports, the film to release on 29th December on Amazon Prime Video. Director Alphonse Puthren made this announcement on his social media, where he wrote, " GOLD is releasing in Amazon Prime Video on December 29th."

The story follows Joshi, the owner of a mobile convenience store, as he discovers an abandoned pickup truck parked in front of his house, which he wants removed from his property, but soon learns is actually carrying a large amount of gold. What follows are incidents that showcase what happens in his life over a span of four interesting days.

Digital rights were purchased by Amazon Prime Video, while satellite rights were sold to Sun TV Network. For his first film in six years, Gold, director Puthren handled not only the directing duties but also the editing, stunt choreography, visual effects, and more. The film is also to release on Netflix on January 2023.

Subbiah Shanmughan of SSI Productions released the film in Tamil Nadu alongside the Malayalam dub. The cinematography of the film was handled by Anend C. Chandran and Viswajith Odukkathil. Gold's musical score was written by Rajesh Murugesan.
