As Tamil film fraternities and fans are braced up a deep shock after learning that popular Tamil TV actor VJ Chitra was found dead by committing suicide in the wee hours of Wednesday, the new developments unfolded from the death of the 29-year-old had revealed the details around the suicide amid the probe launched by the police department.
Chitra was found dead at a private hotel in Nazrathpet in the outskirts of Chennai on Wednesday. According to the police department, Chitra had checked into her room at a private hotel in Nazrathpet, Chennai at around 2.30 am on Wednesday after completing the shoot. Speaking to a news agency, a police officer in Nazrathpet said that the hotel manager had informed the police by dialing the helpline number 100 at around 3.30 am and the police had launched a probe into her death.
Her demise has come ahead of her marriage and when she had been rising to fame in the Kollywood industry with having been committed for a Tamil film. Chitra has got engaged to Hemnath, who is a businessman based in Chennai, in August 2020 and they had been preparing for getting married with some reports suggested that the betrothal couple had already done a registered marriage in October. According to reports close to the developments, Hemnath was also staying with Chitra in the same hotel room where the actor had ended her life.
The latest reports say that police had recovered her body and sent it for autopsy to Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai to ascertain the cause of death. The police department had launched the probe into her death and the officials are investigating Chitra's fiance Hemnath to find out the reason for the suicide and the actor had been staying with her fiance in the hotel for a while and she had committed suicide in the room hours after she completed her shooting.
During the investigation, Hemnath revealed to the police that Chitra, who was attending a TV serial shooting at EVP Film City in Nazrashpet, had returned to the hotel room at around 2.30 am on Wednesday and informed him that she would go to take a bath. Hemnath further stated that he came out of the room and was waiting outside for a long time. He later knocked on the doors, however, there was no response from inside following which Hemnath had informed the hotel staff that the doors are locked and there was no response.
The reports say that following Hemnath's information, hotel employee Ganesh had accompanied Chitra's fiance to the room, and the employee had opened the room by using the alternative key and when they entered the room, they were shocked to see Chitra was hanging from the ceiling fan. The probe had revealed that she had used her saree to commit suicide. After having been left with shock, the hotel had informed the Nazrathpet police department following which the police personnel arrived at the hotel and recovered her body.
The police department had launched a probe into her death and the local law enforcement agency has been investigating Hemnath, the hotel staff, and others at the spot in connection with the actor's death. The parents of the 29-year-old actor were living in Thiruvanmiyur and the police had informed them about the death. The initial investigation had revealed that Chitra and Hemanth had got registered marriage in October and they had been living in Nazrathpet since then.
Chitra, who was fondly called as VJ Chithu, was one of the notable faces that was predominant in the households across the state and she rose to popularity with her role in the Tamil soap opera Pandian stores, which telecasted on Vijay TV and she was also better known for her role as a television host, hosting popular television shows. The news of her death, which broke out on Wednesday morning, has shocked her fans and film fraternities who are condoling her family.
Hours before her death, Chitra had shared her pictures on Instagram from a photoshoot in which she was seen dressed in a purple and green silk saree. Chitra rose to fame by acting in the role of Mullai Kathiravan in Pandian stores, which has become one of the most-watched soap-operas in Tamil Nadu and Chitra had gained the limelight as one of the rising talents in the Tamil industry and the reports say that she was said to have signed to play an important role in an upcoming Tamil film.
Besides appearing in a soap opera, Chitra was a successful television host and she had hosted shows on some of the major television channels including Zee Tamizh, Jaya TV, and Makkal TV. Along with Pandian Stores, she was popularly known for her appearances in the serials 'Saravanan Meenatchi' on Vijay TV, 'Chinna Papa Periya Papa' on Sun TV, 'Darling Darling' and 'Velunachi' on Zee Tamizh. Her fans and the Tamil film fraternities, including the actors and television hosts, who worked with Chitra, had expressed their shock to learn the demise and they have been paying tribute to the deceased actor.
