Popular Tamil actor and VJ passes away at the age of 48: Kollywood pays tribute!

In a shocking piece of news, popular Tamil actor and Video jockey Anandha Kannan has passed away at the age of 48 on Monday night due to rare bile-duct cancer. He was a favourite among the 90s kids as he was one of the notable video jockeys in Tamil Nadu, shined significantly and drawn major fan following in a short span of time. Kannan was a native of Singapore and moved to Chennai and started his career in the city by hosting shows on Sun Music, a channel of Sun Network.

He began his career as an actor and television host at Vasantham TV in Singapore and then he moved to Chennai and joined Sun Music in the 1990s. He went on to attain fame across and beyond the borders and became popular among the young audience. He also had hosted several interviews and besides being a video jockey and he also had acted in some movies. Though these pictures didn't run well, they hadn't bothered his popularity as he was one of the pioneers in the Tamil video jockey industry. 

He acted in movies like Adhisaya Ulagam, a Tamil science fantasy film in 2012, and acted in two films 'Mullum Malarum' in 2010 and 'Ithanai Naalai Engirunthai' in 2012. However, both these films didn't get released. Being one of the close friends to director Venkat Prabhu, Anandha Kannan had acted in a guest role in the movie 'Saroja' in 2008 that was directed by the former. In television, Kannan had acted in lead roles in 'Sindubad' and 'Kadhal Channel' in 2012 and from 2013 to 2018, he had successfully hosted the 'Savaal Singapore', the Tamil version of 'We are Singaporeans'.

He also had received several accolades during his career. He was conferred with the International Youth Icon award at World Universities Tamil Conference in 2013 and the Best Actor award in Television Actors Guild Award South India. He also had won the Best Host award in 2011 for Savaal Singapore. Kannan was not active in the industry for the past few years and recently, he has got booked for a show in a popular Tamil channel recently. 

However, Anandha Kannan was diagnosed with rare bile-duct cancer a few months ago and he was getting treated for the disease. Amid treatment, he had breathed his last on Monday night at the age of 48 and his untimely demise had immensely shocked his fans and cinema fraternities. After learning about his demise, several celebrities have been paying tribute as the industry has lost yet another artist amid the incessant distress triggered by the lockdown. Director Venkat Prabhu took to Twitter and wrote, "A great friend a great human is no more!! #RIPanandakannan my deepest condolences".
