Popular Bollywood director Raj Kaushal has passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday due to cardiac arrest. Kaushal was in his 50s and the news of his demise was shared by the director's family friend and actor Rohit Roy. Kaushal was the husband of Mandira Bedi, who is an actor and TV presenter.
Raj Kaushal had risen to popularity by directing the movies like 'Shaadi Ka Laddoo' and 'Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi'. Apart from direction, Kaushal had also produced the movie 'My Brother Nikhil', directed by Onir and starred by Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla. The movie was released in 2005. Kaushal's last directorial was the 2006 thriller 'Anthony Kaun Hai?' starring Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt. He suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Kaushal's last rites were held in Bandra on Wednesday morning and the funeral was attended by his friends from the industry including Samir Soni, Ashish Chaudhary, Huma Qureshi, and Apurva Agnihotri. Kaushal is survived by his wife Mandira, his son Veer, and daughter Tara. Actor Rohit Roy had taken to social media and shared the news of Kaushal's demise.
Roy said, "One of the nicest guys you could ever have met and if you were lucky, you could have called him your friend, and just like that, he is gone, even without saying goodbye. Too numb with grief and shock to react...This is not fair, just not fair...Raj, my friend, my brother...keep spreading the cheer where ever your next abode is...Knowing your penchant for good homes, I am sure you are looking for a good spot in heaven right now. We all loved you dearly and you know that...unfortunately, we kept saying next week next week and that week never came. See you on the other side, my bro...Till we raise hell again, Rest in peace @rajkaushal."
Notable actor Anupam Kher took to Twitter and wrote, "Deeply saddened & shocked to know about the sudden demise of #RajKaushal! A friend, a filmmaker & a very positive man. Have some great memories of working with him & spending time with him a few years back. Sorry, dearest @mandybedi & family for your irreparable loss. #OmShanti".
In his tribute note, director Onir wrote, "Gone too soon. We lost filmmaker and Producer @rajkaushal1 this morning. Very Sad. He was one of the producers of my first film #MyBrotherNikhil. One of those few who believed in our vision and supported us. Prayers for his soul."
Actor Madhavan took to Twitter and wrote, "I just don’t know what to say. No words nor lines can express how devastating this news has been. One of the nicest guys with a heart of gold is now lighting up the heavens. Farewell my bro @rajkaushal1.Our world just got very very small."
Actor Neha Dhupia wrote, "Raj, we took this picture to create more and more memories…can’t believe you aren't with us anymore … Mandira, my strong strong girl, I am at a loss of words. My heart belongs to Vir and Tara…I’m shaken up and in shock and disbelief as I write this, RIP Raj." Mandira Bedi and Raj Kaushal had got married in 1999 and they welcomed their son Veer in 2011. As the couple wanted to adopt a daughter, they welcomed 4-year-old Tara into the family in July last year.
