'Ponniyin Selvan' shooting is over: When we can expect the release of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus?

In what has become a relishing piece of news for cinema fans, Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' is coming soon as the shooting for the first part is over. The movie was a dream for several legendary actors and Mani Ratnam has finally come to fulfil that through his audacity of picturizing an acclaimed novel written by Kalki. 

While Mani Ratnam is directing the movie, it is bankrolled by Subaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies. On Saturday, Lyca Productions took to social media and officially announced the wrap of the shooting. It wrote, "PS-1 coming soon!" and released a poster which say that the filming is complete and we can expect that the movie will be released in summer 2022.  

The movie was shot across India and some of the countries that lie on the belt of Indo China. The final schedules of the film were shot in Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad. The shooting began in late 2019 in Thailand and it has now come to an end nearly after two years. The shooting of the mega-project met with setbacks from the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. However, the movie team had paced up the filming when there had been no restrictions and with the wrap, the movie has been moved to the next phase of production work. 

Ever since the announcement about the movie was made, it has poured in more anticipations among the fans across and beyond the borders as Mani Ratnam has touched the historical yet tangled subject. Being a master in the directory, Mani Ratnam's work had etched a legacy in the Indian cinema and Ponniyin Selvan has become his huge project. The movie is based on Kalki's popular Tamil novel of the same name 'Ponniyin Selvan', which was published in 1955. 

In July this year, the moviemakers had unveiled the title posters, which featured a mega sword and a shield etched with the head of a roaring tiger, which is the symbol of the Chola kingdom. The poster vividly reveals that the movie will be an iconic historical drama. The movie comes with the ensemble cast as the prominent icons of the Indian cinema will be a part of achieving the dream of filming Ponniyin Selvan. The movie stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Rahman, Nizhalgal Ravi, Lal, Balaji Sakthivel, Nassar, Mohan Raman, and Vijay Yesudas.

Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman will be composing the music and Ravi Varman will be taking care of cinematography. The movie will be edited by Sreekar Prasad. The reports say that Ponniyin Selvan has Brinda Master on board as the choreographer while Sham Kaushal will be taking care of the action sequences. It has been reported that the total budget of Ponniyin Selvan will be Rs 500 crore.
