Ponniyin Selvan 2: This is what director Shankar has to say about the magnum opus of Maniratnam!

Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has set the box office on fire with its epic storytelling and stellar performances. The historical drama, which is based on the novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film has also impressed many celebrities from the film industry, who have showered praises on the director and his team. 

Shankar, who is currently working on the sequel of his cult classic film starring Kamal Hassan, ‘Indian’, praised Mani Ratnam for his meticulous craftsmanship and vision. He wrote, “PS2, meticulously crafted by Maestro Mani Ratnam sir, especially the scene with #AishwaryaRaiBachchan and @chiyaan, who was scintillating and stunning, makes history. @arrahman‘s music is truly marvellous! @dop_ravivarman‘s frames were alluring! ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is the second part of a two-part film series that narrates the story of Raja Raja Chola I, one of the greatest kings of India. The film stars an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj and others. The film has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages across the world.

The film has been doing exceptionally well at the box office and has crossed Rs 250 crore mark in worldwide in just four days of its release. The film has also received positive response from overseas markets and has become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2023. The film has also received critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, performances, music, cinematography and production design.

Meanwhile, Shankar is currently working on two parallel projects that are expected to be pan-Indian blockbusters. The first one is ‘Indian 2’, which also features Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar and others in important roles.

The second project is ‘Game Changer’, which marks Shankar’s first collaboration with Telugu superstar Ram Charan. The film also stars Kiara Advani as the female lead and Anjali as a key character. The film is said to be a political drama with a lot of action and romance.  Shankar is also reportedly planning to direct a historical epic based on the novel ‘Velpari’ by Su Venkatesan. The film is said to star Suriya, Yash and other pan-Indian actors in the lead roles.
