The state of Maharashtra has seemingly been clouded with the restless political ruckus, unpredictable twists and widening cracks between the parties that have been quaking the state in a month-long political standoff despite the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
On the early morning of Saturday, the state political grounds witnessed the extreme heat after the shocking and surprising pictures from Raj Bhavan hit the screens of television in which the BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Ajit Pawar were taking oath as the state's Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively. By assuming the office of the Chief Minister, Fadnavis had stunned the shore of the opposite side of the aisle where Congress, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress party had tabled multiple rounds of discussions to form a tri-party government by ousting the BJP from holding the baton of power.
While the swearing-in ceremony had revealed to bring the month-long political turmoil in the state to an end, Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party had lighted the fire on the fuel by staying out from the decision of Ajit Pawar in extending support to the BJP to form the government. By commenting about the recent developments by the NCP, Sharad Pawar clarified that the decision to allying with BJP to form the government in the state was taken solely by his nephew Ajit Pawar and stated that his party doesn't endorse the support for BJP and by pouring fresh allegations, Sharad Pawar had kept the uncertainty alive among the parties by tuning the tale of series of twists.
Hours later, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray- who cracked down a three-decades-long alliance with BJP after accusing the party on declining to share the chief minister's post, had held a press conference together in which Sharad Pawar has said that the party will decide on the notion of Ajit Pawar and the leaders collectively asserted that they had a majority to stake a claim in forming a new government and senior Pawar had reiterated that the party will take all the necessary means to keep the party and the members together. Sharad Pawar said that he is unclear whether Ajit Pawar has changed his direction of sail by fearing the investigative agencies and added that about 4 MLAs out of 10 who were at Raj Bhavan had returned to party's camp. Uddhav Thackeray has blamed the BJP government formation as a move of backstabbing Shiv Sena. Sharad Pawar had stated that the party will take action against Ajit Pawar and will elect a new legislative leader later today.
The Congress party which separately hosted the press conference had branded the day as a black spot in the history of Maharashtra and called the action of BJP as shameful. Congress party's leader Ahmed Patel stated that there was no verification done on the MLAs and described the entire episode of swearing-in ceremony as 'anti-constitutional' and 'anti-democracy' and he asserted that the tri-party Congress, Shiv Sena, and NCP stand in one line and will form a new government in Maharashtra. He further expressed his confidence that the tri party alliance will beat BJP in Trust vote.
The reports had stated that the leaders of three parties would be shipping the MLAs to Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan to avoid any behind the screen offers from BJP. While addressing the reporters, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had claimed the new government to be a stable one and will deliver results and blamed the opposition aisle for not making any claim but rather asked more time.
Keeping the critics aside, NCP's Ajit Pawar had notified that about 35 MLAs of the party are with him. While the opposition parties are gearing up in top speed to denounce BJP's rule in the state, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been receiving support and wishes from the top BJP leaders, the Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states in forming a new government in India's richest state of Maharashtra.
The political drama with the mixtures of heat, twist, turmoil has been reaching the next level with back to back setbacks for the parties and the leaders have been oiling the fire through presenting aberrant and uncertain developments. In the state's legislative elections that held for 288 member assembly last month, the BJP had won 105 seats while NCP, Shiv Sena, and Congress had swept 54, 56 and 44 seats respectively and after failing to have no single-party majority, the state Governor had imposed Presidential rule in the state that has now been revoked after the formation of BJP government.
