Rajinikanth has been in the political limelight since he unveiled his decision of entering active politics and contesting in the upcoming state legislative elections. The actor and political freshman has on Thursday taken to Twitter and announced that he will be launching the political party on January 2021 and said he will be making the official announcement concerning the political party on December 31, 2020, during which it has been expected that he will name his political party.
Following his announcement, Rajinikanth had addressed the reporters in Chennai during which he said, "I am ready to give my life to the people of Tamil Nadu. A political change is extremely essential at this hour. If it is not done now, it will be never done. We should change everything. I request with folded hands to those who had made my livelihood, to stand by me". The superstar said that the party work has already been started."
During his address, Rajinikanth had named BJP leader Arjuna Murthy as the Chief coordinator of the party and Tamilaruvi Manian as the party's manager. While his announcement had relished his fans and members of his outfit as they got a huge relief after the actor had brought an end to his suspense over entering politics, his announcement has also stirred speculations on how he would steer his party. Let's take a look at how the political leaders and celebrities had reacted to the actor's announcement of entering active politics and launching a political party next year.
Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had said that Tamil Nadu would see a race between Rajinikanth and VK Sasikala in the assembly polls while BJP would go into a baffled state. Welcoming Rajinikanth to politics, BJP-RSS ideologue Gurumurthy said that it's an appropriate time for Rajinikanth to enter politics in the absence of leaders like Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi. Gurumurthy stated that Rajini's political entry will create a major political impact in the state and the ideologue had certified that Rajinikanth would be the perfect leader to fill the vacuum.
Voicing against Rajini's political entry, VCK Chief Thol. Thirumavalan doubted whether BJP is directing the actor from behind the screen as the party can't able to enhance its base in the state directly. He stated that spiritual and politics aren't the same and merging both the factors would lead to a state of perplexion and added that Rajini's intention to take over the rein in the short-term shows his over-confidence. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Chief KS Alagiri had opposed Rajini's politics and said that spirituality would fit for the state but spiritual politics won't fit for Tamil Nadu and Alagiri added that Congress won't ally with Rajini.
DMK MP and senior leader Kanimozhi said that the election results will show how Rajini is accepted no matter how he comes to politics. On the other side, expelled DMK leader and Rajini's close friend MK Alagiri had welcomed Rajini into politics. Alagiri has been surfaced with speculations on whether he would ally with Rajini during the assembly polls as Alagiri had recently revealed that his contribution will be there for the election.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam has welcomed Rajini's decision of entering politics and the ADMK leader revealed that the party would ally with Rajini if there is a possibility. However, Tamil Nadu Minister and senior ADMK leader Jayakumar said that Rajini's political entry won't affect the ADMK's voter base in the state. While Rajini's announcement had stirred the mixtures of waves among the political leaders, it has turned out to be a charming bliss for the Kollywood celebrities.
Reputed Kollywood music composer Anirudh took to Twitter and said, "Thalaivar (Rajinikanth) game starts". Director Karthik Subburaj said, "Wow...Thalaivaaa". Raghava Lawrence said, "I'm also one among your million fans waiting for this moment. I pray Raghavendra Swamy for all your wishes to come true. During this tough covid crisis without even considering your health, you have decided to come and serve for the people. Your dream will surely come true".
Director Lingusamy has also congratulated Rajinikanth for entering politics and Actor Anandaraj has welcomed the actor to politics and he wished a happy new year for the fans of Rajinikanth. However, Rajinikanth's close friend and actor turned politician Kamal Haasan is yet to respond to Rajini's announcement of launching a political party. Recently, Kamal Haasan said that he would seek support from Rajinikanth for his support and co-operation for the assembly polls.
